Casa Bjorn
Casa Bjorn is a project inspired by a minimalist desire to live with fewer objects and more connections.
It was designed for a family of three or four people in the Santa Helena neighborhood of Caratinga, Brazil, following a constant pursuit of simplification in the architectural composition and construction process.
The result is a restrained and refined design, a house that appears simple but offers great flexibility in space and use.
The house occupies the portion closest to the road and approximately one-fifth of a 360 m² plot, clearly separating the living area from the garden and vegetable patch, while integrating them on the first floor.
The undeveloped green space at the rear enhances the volume of the house, which is formally very simple, almost childlike, communicating only its functional essence: a place to live in harmony with its surroundings.
The design emphasizes a simple, clean facade facing the public access road and opens all interior and exterior living spaces to the panoramic views.
On the ground floor, near the main entrance, are a garage/office and a bathroom. Ascending to the first floor, a large open-plan living area (kitchen, dining room, and living room) opens onto the panoramic views through a large east-facing window and onto the south-facing outdoor living area, sheltered by a pergola. Also on this level are a flexible storage area and a laundry room. A mezzanine, occupying half of the first floor, houses a master suite and another bedroom.
